Choose light weight yarns. at the same weight they will have many more meters that can be worked, which will allow you to use fewer balls of yarn to finish your work.

Choose the cakes with respect to the balls, for the same material the cake skips the labeling step which saves the end customer.

Don't throw away the fine balls of yarn but find new and creative ideas to recycle all the leftover yarns, perhaps making striped or granny square garments of different materials and colors.
